Earlier this month, we asked you to weigh in on a topic that the fandom has long debated: Is Hogwarts a good school? We received some great entries, and now we’re excited to announce the winner. Congratulations to Nadia Mulvihill! Nadia argues that what makes Hogwarts a great school isn’t just the secret passages and the magical creatures (although those are pretty cool), it’s the love of learning it instills in its students: Hogwarts students go to school to learn magic. Muggle students go to school to learn…what they need to know. Which is subjective in the wide world…

This editorial is the winning entry for the “Hogwarts Education” contest.  by Nadia Mulvihill Ah, Hogwarts. The many-turreted silhouette and the bright and crowded Great Hall stir up warm and fuzzy feelings for our fandom. But is a magical education enough for its students? Does it prepare students for successful careers and personal futures? Absolutely it does. Magic is to the wizarding world as technology is to the Muggle world. Magic is a means of making life easier, but it also creates new problems that require more magic skills to fix. It is an inconvenience to one’s daily…

According to the Pottermore Insider, the singing sensation of the wizarding world Celestina Warbeck is celebrating her birthday today.  One of J.K. Rowling’s favorite “off-stage” characters that she created for her Harry Potter series of books was noted in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Chapter 16 ‘A Very Frosty Christmas’: “They were all supposed to be listening to a Christmas broadcast by Mrs Weasley’s favourite singer, Celestina Warbeck, whose voice was warbling out of the large wooden wireless. Fleur, who seemed to find Celestina very dull,…

Hi! Slightly deviating from my usual topic of choice on here. I thought I would do a quick film review! I am a massive fan of the cinema and I think I am generally a fairly good judge at telling whether or not I will like a film based off the trailer. So admittedly, I entered the showing of ‘What If’ at my local Odeon with the fairly accurate expectation that this film would be an all-round average lighthearted Rom-Com with a number of scenes in which the main character Wallace (played by Daniel Radcliffe) would look as if the weight of the world is on his shoulders; for which…

The Philosopher‘s Stone Director Chris Columbus Year of release 2001 Production David Heyman Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Richard Harris, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane & Alan Rickman Opinion Even though it is the most light-hearted entry to the series, The Philosopher’s Stone has some rather dark elements for a movie catered essentially towards kids: the scene in the forbidden forest and Voldemort’s face in the final confrontation are bits that I remember scaring the shit out of me when I first watched the movie back in 2001. But, even with those…

Where better to begin my discussion of this brilliant woman than with her most recent press coverage? The first incident centered around her as the author, and the news was that she had released a humorous article discussing the future of the beloved Harry Potter main characters from the point of view of the venomous-but colorful-Rita Skeeter.
